Look out Puerto Banús…there’s a new port in town
As many of you will already be aware, Marbella’s fishing port, La Bajadilla, is set to undergo a transformation into a luxury marina! The project will involve the construction of an exterior dyke to greatly increase the capacity of boats as well as the port’s depth and allow cruise liners to dock, ensuring Marbella’s centre will filled with tourists from a wide range of countries. Along with the marina there are also plans for a commercial centre plus a five-star hotel, further enhancing Marbella’s reputation as one of the most exclusive tourist hot spots in the world.
Over recent months the Bajadilla Port project has caused controversy due to delays, yet we can now confirm that the Spanish Ministry of the Environment has granted an extension to the deadline of the environmental impact report, a document essential to the progress of the project, to 2017. In spite of this extension, both the development company and the Public Ports of Andalucía (APPA), an authority which falls under the Ministry of Development, are confident that work will start well before 2017.
The projects’ five-star Grand Luxury hotel is to be developed by the Marbella-based Salti conglomerate group, which operates successful hotels all over the world. Not satisfied with standard five-star luxury, they are keen to make the new Marbella hotel one of the most luxurious in Europe. The Salti Conglomerate’s involvement ensures a commitment to the highest quality standards with a special focus on up-market spa and well-being treatments. Set within the heart of the luxury port and its facilities, the hotel will form part of a luxurious commercial centre with a diverse selection of quality restaurants and stylish boutiques, making it the perfect place for people watching and yacht gazing.
While the neighbouring marina of Puerto Banús has traditionally been the preferred choice for celeb-spotting and luxurious shopping, Marbella itself is now set to become the newest must-visit playground for the rich and famous. With rapidly increasing interest in the area and a brand new port with an initial budget of £84 million to look forward to, there’s no better time to make an investment.
