San Pedro’s boulevard of dreams

The work is nearly complete. While the tunnel that diverts traffic out of sight has been operational since 2012, San Pedro’s residents have been excitedly waiting for the completion of the boulevard and park being created above it.

It’s no wonder that excitement is building, because this park promises to beautify and offer a great many new amenities for San Pedro residents, above all a lovely place to take a stroll in the evening along the bridge-like walkway that stretches across the length of it. If you’ve passed through San Pedro Alcántara recently, you’ll have noticed the fast rate at which play areas and auditoriums for concerts have emerged from what was once an open strip of land lining the N340.

Much of the facilities are aimed at improving the provision of activities for younger residents. The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, announced that the open-air auditorium will “facilitate the scheduling of shows for young people, including ‘fiestas’ and cultural events.” There is also going to be an ice rink, which is certainly a novelty in an area where snow and ice are a rarity, and as the mayor recently pointed out, this new facility will enable people in Marbella to take up sports such as ice hockey and figure skating.

It has been a huge undertaking, costing six million euros to convert 54,000m2 into an area that provides leisure and recreation facilities for the community whilst blending form and function. In addition to creating new employment opportunities, the new park boulevard offers a welcome new social space and a beautiful green corridor between San Pedro town and the beachside area of Nueva Alcántara now being consolidated near its beachside area. Indeed, the new park links up with lovely green spaces, playgrounds, walkways and cycle paths within Nueva Alcántara.

Marbella Direct has some stunning apartments in this area, including at Las Adelfas Beach, a luxurious development near the beach that offers serviced apartment facilities in a wonderful setting. Set between peaceful beaches and the lively little town is Los Arqueros Beach, a modern development of stylish apartments and penthouses that put shops, cafés, restaurants, boutiques, parks, beaches and sports facilities within walking distance.

It shouldn’t be long before the town hosts the grand opening and the outdoor cafés and food markets of the new park set up shop, but before then, why not visit the area and discover why we believe it is one of the most up-and-coming new property hotspots to buy as well as being one of best places to live along on the Costa del Sol.
