As befits a coastal resort with its illustrious reputation, Marbella is an elegant town dominated by leafy avenues and a palm-lined seaside promenade with sea-facing apartments that overlook beaches, yacht harbours and clusters of beach bars and seafood restaurants. This lively part of town is particularly popular in summer, yet the area that borders it forms the hub of Marbella’s amenities throughout the year.
These include a shopping district along the avenues, as well as a wide range of professional services from law firms and banks to beauty salons and private clinics. Just across the main Avenida Ricardo Soriano, however, the urban landscape changes from the tree-lined streets and large parks of the main town to the rather more traditional layout of Marbella’s historic quarter.
Known as the Old Town, it is a maze of little pedestrian streets and squares dissecting an authentic mass of white-plastered houses, many of which now house charming boutiques, cafés, bistros and small hotels. While retaining its traditional charm this area has also become increasingly refined and sophisticated – offering a wonderful alternative for shopping and socialising as well as a selection of beautiful townhouses in which to enjoy a very authentic kind of Spanish lifestyle.
